A wealthy Grand Rapids lawyer purchased a beautiful home on Muskegon Lake near the channel to Lake Michigan in late December last year.  The lawyer wanted to make some upgrades to the home before moving in, so he decided to stay in his current home in Walker until some redecorating was completed in the spring.
One January evening, the lawyer stopped by the vacant house after work to see how the redecorating was coming along.  He noticed that one of the exterior faucets was leaking and creating an ice slick from the house almost down to the lake, so he called a local Muskegon plumber.
The plumber arrived, walked over to the faucet, turned it off, turned it on again, turned it off again, pulled out a screwdriver, did some mysterious plumber-type things for about ten minutes, checked to make sure the leak was fixed, and then handed the lawyer a bill for $600.
The Grand Rapids lawyer exclaimed, “This is ridiculous! You haven’t been here for 15 minutes, yet.  I can’t even make that much as a lawyer anywhere in Michigan!”
The Muskegon plumber quietly replied, “Neither did I when I was a lawyer.”
